Located in the south western part of Puerto Rico, “La Parguera” is an area of much vacationing interest for many tourists from around the world. The agricultural town of Lajas is well known for the small fishing village of La Parguera, where you will find a variety of fun activities to do. From snorkeling, scuba to fine dinning, this small village has it all. No matter what your budget is, you can find something that’s right for you.
The main street is just a several blocks long, but filled with quaint little shops, Puerto-Rican style fast foods, inns, and diving companies. Visit a fancy restaurant or simply have a sea food “empanadilla” (turn-over) with a dozen sorullitos (fried corn sticks) in any of the “kioskos” you will find on every corner.
Come along with friends and charter your own fishing boat excursion and head out to sea. Who knows if you’ll be able to take a picture catching a blue marlin, or anything else the sea holds for you. Scuba diving is also a wonderful sport to enjoy in La Parguera, with its beautiful marine life. Fishing and scuba diving charters operate all through out the year by reservations.
If fishing is not your thing, go boating and swimming in the cays and islands of La Parguera. Take a guided excursion tour to the island of Caracoles or Isla Magueyes, or try kite-boarding on Cayo Enrique.
While visiting, reserve some time to explore the sparkling waters of La Parguera’s Phosphorescent Bay. You will be fascinated by this wonder of nature. The waters of this bay are filled with micro organisms called dinoflagellates, which are single-cell plankton that emit small sparks of light when the water around them is moved. The best time to enjoy this unique experience is after sun down.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your bathing suit stock up on sun block and head down to La Parguera in Lajas, Puerto Rico!!
